The new MP for Vava’u 14 Electorate took oath in Parliament

9 April 2024. Hon. Mo’ale ‘Otunuku in took his oath in office yesterday 8 April during Parliament session and swore to obey and abide by the Constitution of Tonga.

He also pledged to perform his best for the King and for the good of the country.

The Tongan academic of Longomapu won Vava'u 14 by-election with a majority 709 votes.

Dr. ‘Otunuku was recently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Head of the Institute of Education’s Research and Development Programme, University of the South Pacific before entering politics.

The new MP holds a Doctorate and a master’s degree in education both from the University of Auckland and a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and History/Politics from the University of the South Pacific, Fiji.

Dr. ‘Otunuku worked as a high school teacher in Tonga and New Zealand for many years before completing graduate studies at the University of Auckland.
