The CCTF Board has approved 20 projects for Tongatapu

29 November, 2019. The Climate Change Trust Fund (CCTF) Board has approved a total of 20 Water Tank project proposals for Tongatapu to be funded through the CCTF’s Second Call for Applications.

On Wednesday 27th November 2019, a meeting was held for the Climate Change Department staff, to provide information to enhance the understanding of the applications concerning the fund’s procedures and expectations. The applicants were also informed of the different stages, from implementation to the maintenance and monitoring, up to the completion of the projects.

On Friday the 29th of November, another meeting was held for the CCTF community project proposals where contracts were signed with twenty successful applicant groups, to fulfill their requests for assistance from the CCTF. The CCTF board approved the proposals from these twenty communities earlier this month.

The signing of the contracts for the water tanks was between the representatives from the beneficiary groups and the CEO of MEIDECC Mr. Paula Ma’u, and this signifies the commencement of the implementation phase.

The 20 successful community proposals for water tank in Tongatapu equals a sum total of 425 water tanks of different capacities. The representatives of the beneficiaries consisted of local town officers, representatives from village water committees and also village women development groups.

A team of staff from the Department of Climate Change will visit the outer islands to award and sign the contracts for the successful applications from ‘Eua, Ha’apai, Vava’u and the Niuas next week. The CCTF is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as a component of the Climate Resilience Sector Project (CRSP) under the Department of Climate Change, MEIDECC.
