Tonga is Expecting Rainfall

4 November, 2015. Tonga is hoping that rain currently falling over the Niua islands will head south and relieve the drought-stricken country. The National Emergency Office director, Leveni 'Aho, says he fears the worst is yet to come as the region deals with a threatening El Niño pattern.

Local Companies and Civil Service Participated in Breast Cancer Campaign

Nuku'alofa, 3 November 2015. On Friday, October 30 marked the last day of the 2015 Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. And local companies were joined by civil service offices in the special competition organised by the Tonga Breast Cancer Society.

President Hon. Fredrica Fatafehi ‘o Lapaha Filipe officiated at the launch of the competition on Friday morning. The competition included 11 companies and government ministries and departments.

A panel of three judges, including Hon. Fanetupouvava’u Tu’ivakano, Tana Taumoepeau and Police Inspector Lau’aituTupouniua were judges for the event. The three Judges and Hon Fredrica Filipe visited the competitiors’ premises to assess the offices and businesses on Friday.

The winners were announced on Saturday after the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at the Tungi Colonade in the capital. Meanwhile, Dr. ‘Ana ‘Akau’ola says that 18 women have been diagnosed with breast cancer between January and August this year.

Breast Cancer has been identified as the cancer that has affected women the most. This year’s Breast Cancer Theme was “We are Stronger Together” or “Kaukaua ‘i he’etau Taha”.
